Russellville senior Elliott signs with Shelton State Buccaneers

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Russellville senior Amber Elliott recenlty signed with the Shelton State Community College Buccaneers of Tuscaloosa. Elliott will begin playing for the community college this fall.

Standout Russellville senior basketball player Amber Elliott will be extending her playing career to community college come this fall.

Elliott recently signed on with the Shelton State Community College Buccaneers of Tuscaloosa to play basketball at the next level.

“I like the school,” Elliott said.

“It’s not small, and I won’t see the same faces every day.

I like the team, and I think I fit in well.”

Elliott said she is excited about going to college and playing basketball.

After her performance at the high school level, it is only natural that a college team would pick up Elliott as a new player.

Position is not much of an uncertainty for Elliott, whose size and athleticism makes for a good post player.

“I like my position,” Elliott said. “I like to be one on one with the post player.”

Playing at Russellville may help Elliott move on to playing basketball at the next level.

Since the school is 5A, that means the team plays larger schools and stiffer competition.

“Playing against better teams can help me in the future,” Elliott said.

Her soon-to-be former head coach James Bostick has no doubt about Elliott’s potential to play ball in community college and beyond.

“She’s going to be a big asset for two years there,” Bostick said.

“I think she’ll be playing at a four-year school after that.”
