Lawrence “Larry” Orr Newton, 91, of Montgomery, formerly of Russellville, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Crowne Health Care Center, Montgomery, Ala.

Mr. Newton was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy on the USS Washington battleship during World War II.

The visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Spry Memorial Chapel.  The funeral will be follow at noon in the chapel. Officiating at the service will be Bro. Phil Newton.   Burial will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Newton; parents, Virgil and Martha Newton; brothers and sisters, Carnie Newton, Ena Newton, Tom Newton, Foy Newton, Joe Newton, and Bill Newton.

He is survived by his son, Skip Newton and wife, Karen, of St. Charles, Ill.; grandchildren, Nicole “Nikki” Newton, Rebecca “Becca” Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
