How to help

What They Need

Due to the overwhelming support from so many people, the needs of those affected by last Wednesday’s tornado have changed from what they initially were. The following items are now most needed:

• Medical supplies

Band-aids, pain reliever, antacids, over-the-counter allergy medication

• Cleaning supplies

Mops, buckets, brooms, paper towels, cleaning sprays, wipes, etc.

• Miscellaneous

Plastic containers, storage containers, AAA batteries, flashlights, charcoal, sunscreen, lanterns, lamp oil, battery-operated lamps

• Monetary donations

Donations of money can be accepted at any branch of Bank Independent, Community Spirit Bank, CB&S Bank, First Metro Bank and Valley State Bank. Ask to make a deposit in the Franklin County, Alabama Tornado Disaster Relief Fund and all proceeds will go directly to victims in Franklin County.

Where to Go

Several businesses in Franklin County have agreed to serve as a drop-off location for the above items and have people dedicated to getting these items to the areas they are needed the most:

• Clark Pulley in the Russellville Industrial Park is the main drop-off location. The Franklin County Times office will still be accepting items and will transport them to Clark Pulley.

What to Do

• Volunteers wanting to help with the clean-up efforts should report to the Phil Campbell Rescue Squad where a command center is set up. They will tell you where volunteers are needed the most.

• If you want to help at an individual’s residence, please contact them first. Do not attempt to start working without their permission. Some must wait for insurance companies before any clean up or repairs occur.
