Russellville advances, PC and Vina fall

Russellville dominated Lee-Huntsville in the opening game of the Class 5A state baseball playoffs, rolling to an 11-1 victory. The Golden Tigers rallied from deficits of 4-0 and 6-3 to claim the second game 9-8 to advance to the second round.

J.T. Watkins, who drove in four runs in the first game, had the game-winning hit to score Jordan Gist in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game to give Russellville the series victory.

Vina and Phil Campbell both had trouble putting together much offense in their playoff series.

Vina, which was playing at Cedar Bluff in the Class 1A playoffs, lost the first game 12-3 before dropping the second game 12-0.

Phil Campbell was also swept losing on the road at American Christian in the Class 2A playoffs. The Bobcats fell 6-3 in the first game and lost the second game 14-0.
