Carrie McRight Sneed, 99, of Russellville, Ala. passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehab Center in Florence.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Mt. Hope, Ala., Methodist Church Cemetery. Officiating was Johnny Richardson, Jackie Richardson, and Mark White. The pallbearers were grandsons and men of the Newburg Church of Christ.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1912, the twelfth of sixteen children born to Terry C. and Carrie Green McRight. She and Henry J. (Jack) Sneed married and settled in Newburg, where they reared their children, and remained until his death in 1987. In addition to her duties on the farm, she spent many years serving her family and her community. She operated the family store and worked at the Franklin County Registrar’s office. She used her talents as a wonderful cook and accomplished seamstress to help others. She will be remembered for her strength, dignity, devotion to her husband and children, and her faithfulness to God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son, parents, infant granddaughter, Julie Monique Sneed, six sisters and seven brothers.
She leaves her five children, Betty Sneed Grissom and husband, Raymond, of Russellville, Henry Jackson Sneed, Jr. and wife, Dean, of Athens, Bill Sneed and wife, Ruth, of Cantonment, Fla., Bob Sneed and wife, Martha, of Florence, and Glenda Sneed Williams and husband, John, of Florence; sister, Rae Sneed, of Florence; brother Pruitt McRight, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ramona Grissom Robinson and husband, Jeff, Mark Grissom, Leah Sneed Garner and husband, Randy, Todd Sneed and wife, Sharon, Sharon Sneed Yetzer and husband, Jim, Brian Sneed and wife, Malyn, Patrick Sneed and wife, Kelly, Whitney Sneed Schrimsher and husband, Jeremy, Allison Sneed Morris and husband, Lee, Derek Williams, Susy Williams Ortiz and husband, James; and step-grandson, Tony Carnley and wife, Jamie. She is survived by 25 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and a large extended family.
A special thanks to Dr. Randy Little and Dr. Mitch Bowen, and to the staffs of Merrill Gardens and Mitchell Hollingsworth and Hospice of the Shoals for assisting in her care during the past four years.
