Man arrested after police standoff
The Franklin County Special Response Team was activated Thursday night after a local man reportedly made threats to use weapons at an area school.
David Scott Frost, 39, 162 Frost Lane, Russellville, was taken into custody about 10 p.m. Thursday and charged with making terroristic threats, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said.
According to Oliver, dispatchers at the sheriff’s department received a call from the Haleyville Police Department that Frost had called their office numerous times threatening to take a gun to Haleyville’s school on Friday to get his kids and “no one was going to stop him.”
Oliver said Frost was apparently involved in a domestic situation where the custody of his children was an issue and Frost was threatening to take the children by force.
Shortly after receiving the call from HPD, Oliver said the sheriff’s department received a call from Frost where he stated he had guns at his home and he was going to use them.
“He said if anyone came to his house to take away his guns he was going to shoot,” Oliver said. “At this point he had called two different law enforcement agencies and threatened to use his guns, so we had to take him seriously.”
Oliver activated the Franklin County SRT because of their specialized training and officers responded to Frost’s residence in the Union community.
Oliver said after officers arrived on the scene, they were able to take Frost into custody without incident.
“Anytime we receive a call where someone is making threats to use weapons, especially if they’re making threats to use them in an area like a school where a large number of people and children will be involved, we have to take that seriously,” Oliver said. “These days, you can’t be too careful. It’s just better to err on the side of the safety of the community.”
Oliver said he appreciated the cooperation of all the agencies involved who helped diffuse the situation.
“Officers from many different agencies worked on this case, and I appreciate them coming together to make sure the situation was handled quickly and efficiently,” Oliver said.
Frost is being held at the Franklin County Jail without bond at this time.
