Two arrested for buying meth making chemicals

Two Mississippi men were arrested at a local store for purchasing precursor chemicals on Friday, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said.

Christopher Lee Gasaway, 34, 975 Tomlin Rd., Fulton, Miss., and Austin Cole Gasaway, 22, 103 Strange St., Mantachie, Miss., were both charged with second-degree manufacturing.

Christopher Gasaway was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

According to Oliver, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department observed both defendants purchasing precursor chemicals at a local business during a drug investigation.

After the defendants purchased the chemicals, deputies arrested them before they could drive away.

Oliver said deputies discovered numerous items used to manufacture methamphetamine while searching the vehicle.

Investigators said the men admitted they purchased the chemicals for the purpose of manufacturing meth.

Investigators also discovered the men had purchased precursors earlier that same day at a business in Red Bay.

Austin Gasaway was released Monday on a $5,000 bond.

Christopher Gasaway was released on a $7,500 bond.
