Police: Man threatened to shoot manager

RED BAY – A local man was arrested Tuesday morning as the result of an altercation at an area factory where the man had been employed for the past seven years.

James Dale Gravitt, 36, 1961 Franklin 16, was arrested and charged with making a terrorist threat, a Class C felony punishable by 1-10 years in prison if convicted.

According to Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson, officers with the Red Bay Police Department were dispatched to Sunshine Homes, Inc. about 11 a.m. on Monday due to an employee making threats towards his employers.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they were informed by Sunshine Homes personnel that Gravitt had made threats to kill his supervisors after quitting his job.

“We were told that Gravitt had quit his job, tore up his time card, and that he was going to leave and get a gun so he could ‘shoot all the people in white shirts,’ referring to his supervisors,” Jackson said.

“Gravitt had already left the scene so we called the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and our investigator and sheriff’s deputies went to Gravitt’s residence on County Road 16.”

Jackson said Gravitt was located at the residence and was brought to the Red Bay Jail where he was held until he was charged Tuesday morning and transported to the Franklin County Jail.

Gravitt has been released on a $75,000 bond.
