FAYETTE — Vina’s season came to and end Friday with a 42-6 loss to Hubbertville.
The Lions opened up an 8-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended it to 22-0 late in the second quarter.
Cody Renfrow intercepted a Hubbertville pass and returned it 70 yards for a Vina touchdown with 29 seconds remaining before halftime. The 2-point conversion failed, leaving the Red Devils down 22-6 at the half.
Hubbertville added three more touchdowns in the third quarter.
Nick Schmittou led Vina with 69 rushing yards on 13 carries while Channing Haithcock rushed for 35 yards on six carries.
Vina coach James Pharr said the running backs did a good job carrying the ball.
Ethan Hammock added 10 carries for 25 yards.
Austin Nichols led the Red Devils with 6.5 tackles while Schmittou recorded six tackles and Clay Pierce recorded five tackles.
While the Red Devils (2-8) were unable to return to the playoffs this season, Pharr said he saw some good things out of the younger players that they can carry into next year.
