Red Devils score early, fall to Phillips

BEAR CREEK — Vina found success early Friday in its must-win region game at Phillips, but could keep the offense rolling in a 30-14 loss.
Nick Schmittou scored on a 1-yard run to put the Red Devils ahead 6-0 early.
Adam Pharr added to the lead with a 3-yard run and scored on the 2-point conversion to give Vina (0-6, 0-4) a 14-0 lead.
Phillips (2-4, 2-2) began the rally in the second quarter and cut the Vina lead to 14-6 by halftime. Phillips added three touchdowns and three 2-point conversions in the second half to put the game away.
Schmittou completed 6-of-13 passes for 81 yards. He also rushed for 25 yards on six carries.
Pharr caught three passes for 53 yards and had 15 carries for 90 yards. Clay Pierce caught three passes for 28 yards.
Ethan Hammock carried the ball nine times for 42 yards while Channing Haithcoch had four carries for 10 yards.
Joseph Barksdale and Schmittou led the Red Devils with 11 tackles each.
