Following a senior season in which he helped lead Vina to its second straight playoff appearance, Morgan McCarley decided where to continue his baseball career.

McCarley had offers from several programs following an outstanding performance at a showcase in June but decided Bevill State was the best choice.

“I can quit worrying now,” McCarley said. “It felt good to have choices, but I picked Bevill State because it is close to home and I got a full ride.”

McCarley split his senior season between pitching and playing third base.

On the mound McCarley had a 4-2 record with a pair of saves. In 33.2 innings of work McCarley allowed 15 hits and recorded 60 strikeouts.

His best performance came against Tharptown where he threw a no-hitter to secure the area title for the Red Devils. McCarley also had a good year at the plate, hitting .333 with 33 hits, including a pair of home runs.

He had 25 RBIs and scored 35 runs.

“I’m going to miss my teammates and friends (at Vina),” McCarley said. “I played with them for 12 to 13 years and I’ve played for the coaches for six or seven years.”

Vina coach Greg Hamilton said the Red Devil program would miss McCarley.

“He is a great high school pitcher. I will never be able to say enough positive things for what he did for our program,” Hamilton said. “He is going to be missed tremendously at Vina.”
