Graffiti problems on rise - again

By Staff
Nathan Strickland
Graffiti paintings are popping up on many buildings, businesses and even billboards throughout Russellville.
Property owners are getting annoyed about the problem, claiming it makes the town look like the “slums of poverty.”
Russellville Police Captain Shannon Oliver said the police need some help from the community.
The perpetrators have targeted the new tornado shelters, empty buildings and local businesses.
Al Singleton, owner of ALACO Sales located at 35 Herring Crossroad in the Russellville Industrial Park, said the community has to stand up and do something about it.
Singleton said he cannot afford to keep re-painting trailers because he is losing money.
Singleton said industry people would think again about purchasing property here because vandals have written on everything.
Singleton plans to take matter into his own hands, letting city officials know he is not about to lay down and take it.
Oliver said he believes Singleton is on the right track.
Oliver urges the public to call police with any information that may lead to an arrest.
