Christmas festivities are going to be extended this year after the annual parade downtown.
The RHS Marching Hundred and show choir present the first annual ‘Wassailfest.’
The term ‘wassail’ is a type of Christmas drink. RHS band director Gary McNutt said he hopes this will bring the community together.
The event will begin at 4p.m. on Dec. 10, with a pancake supper offered at the First Baptist Church (FBC).
People will then be given the option to step outside and enjoy the city’s annual Christmas parade at 6:30 p.m.
After the parade, the Roxy will be hosting a night of Christmas entertainment provided by the RHS Jazz Band, PJ and Bobby of the Peaches Winston’s Group, the fifth grade chorus, a quartet from the FBC, the RHS Tigerettes performing a Rockette type routine, Dana Crummie and Zac Hacker with Kerry Gilbert and Shane Goodson closing.
The plan is to sell hot chocolate and wassail with doughnuts throughout the evening from the gazebo beside the church downtown.
The RHS band and show choir are planning a trip to go to Orlando, Florida for their spring trip next year. The two organizations will make the trip together with the band performing at the Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and the choir performing on Disney’s Downtown U.S.A. stage
