VERNON – A much bigger and faster Lamar County football team ended the season for Red Bay with a 42-0 shutout in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Tigers had trouble containing the more seasoned Bulldogs, who opened the game with 75-yard kick-off return for a touchdown.
The Tigers started their first drive deep in their own territory, and ended up punting from near their goal line.
Lamar County took over on the 43-yard line of Red Bay. On third-and-6 from the 39, Red Bay's Chance Wooten recovered a Bulldog fumble, sending the Tigers back in the other direction.
After Red Bay converted on third-and-3 near midfield, quarterback Hunter Childers' pass to Jesse Venable was intercepted deep in Bulldog territory.
The Red Bay defense turned back the next drive by Lamar County, but the Bulldogs connected on a TD pass with 11 seconds remaining in the first for a 14-0 lead.
The Bulldogs added three more in the second for a 35-0 halftime lead.
