VINA – The playoff chase in Class 1A, Region 8 is over, but fans can still expect a good game when Vina hosts region and county rival Tharptown Friday night.
The Red Devils have already clinched the final playoff spot in the region, but the Wildcats would like to knock Vina off and keep it from building momentum heading into the post season.
The Red Devils (3-5, 2-3) have won their last two games, both against Waterloo, and has its first three-win season since 2005.
Their only other win came against Tharptown during the second week of the season. Vina won the game 34-7 and was able to score off several Tharptown turnovers.
The Wildcats are 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the region. They would like to win this game to make up for the earlier loss and to avenge a late-season loss at Vina last year.
The Wildcats led the game late, but the Red Devils intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown as time expired to steal the win.
Vina would like to win this game as well as next week's game against Hubbertville so they could carry a four-game winning streak into the playoffs.
The Red Devils are averaging 14.5 points per game and allowing 25.3 points.
The Wildcats are scoring 13.5 points points per game and giving up 38.9 points.
The game begins at 7 p.m.
