Herman L.V. Sutherland

Herman L.V. Sutherland, 83, of Haleyville, Ala. passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009.
He was a member of Waldrop Freewill Baptist Church in Haleyville. He was a lumber dealer for Southern Pine for over 40 years, retired from the Winston Co. Hwy. Dept., a member of Pebble Volunteer Fire Dept., and belonged to Haleyville Masonic Lodge #464.
Funeral services were held Oct. 11, at Winston Memorial Cemetery with Hugh Cavender officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Lurene Newton Sutherland; son, Boyce Sutherland; brothers, Ray and Harold Sutherland; sisters, Alice Powell and Helean Holcomb; grandchildren, Boyce Sutherland, Jr., Douglas Kyle Sutherland and Samantha Howard; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jottie Floyd and Ella Earlene Sutherland; daughter, Cynthia Jayne Baxter; brothers and sisters, Edith, Nell, J.B. and Earl.
Bessie Jane Cleveland

Bessie Jane Cleveland, 91, of Russellville, Ala. passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Russellville Health Care.
She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held October 11, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Mickey Crane officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery in Phil Campbell.
Survivors include son, Freddy Cleveland and wife, Barbara, of Tuscumbia; daughter-in-law, Kathy Cleveland, of Russellville; sisters, Nell Sumners, Bernice Palmer, both of Adrian, Mich; brother, Glaney Raper, of Adrian, Mich.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Henry Cleveland; son, Frankie Cleveland.
Adle McCollum Crews

Adle McCollum Crews, 94, of Russellville, Ala. passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Russellville Health Care.
Mrs. Crews was a lifetime resident of Franklin County and member of Tharptown Baptist Church.
Funeral service were held October 10, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Bro. Eddie Wix officiating. Burial followed in Tharptown Cemetery.
Survivors include children, Betty Ann Davis and husband, Johnny, Billy Crews and wife, Peggy, Martha Sneed and husband, Jimmy, all of Russellville, Larry Crews and wife, Carol, Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister, Dorothy Fitts; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas Andrew Crews; children, Bobby Joe and infant daughter; parents, Ernest and Myrtle McCollum; sister, Clairice Oswalt.

Martha Creamer

Martha Creamer, 86, of Russellville, Ala., died Friday, October 9, 2009 at Russellville Hospital.
Mrs. Creamer was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Ala.
The graveside service was Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Russellville, with Chris Creamer officiating.
She is survived by her son, Chris Creamer and wife, Brandy, of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchild, Allison McPhillips, of Florida; great-grandchild, Mason McPhillips.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Creamer.
Roland Earl "Paw Paw" Wade

Roland Earl "Paw Paw" Wade, 80, of Russellville, Ala. passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital.
Mr. Wade was a native of Walker County, but had lived in Franklin County for the past 45 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Russellville and active with the Sunday School Class. He served in the Navy/Army. He was in the nursing home industry in Alabama for 47 years and recognized by the industry as a pioneer. He retired in 1989 from Terrace Manor Nursing Home where he was the administrator.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Bro. Barry Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include wife, Betty Wade, of Russellville; sons, Phillip Wade and wife, Sherene, of Russellville, Michael Earl Wade and wife, Dawn, of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, Reed Wade, of Hot Springs, Ark.; grandchildren, Lydia, Laurel, Parker, Brian, and Dax; great-grandchild,
Kennedy.
Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.

Jane Freret Williams

Jane Freret Williams, 83, passed away October 7, 2009 at the Pueblo Norte nursing home in Scottsdale, Ariz. A long-time resident of Russellville and Florence, she was the widow of Judge Kennedy Williams. Mrs. Williams was born in Birmingham and grew up in Ashland, Ky. She held a B.A. in Journalism and an M.S. in Psychology from the University of Alabama, where she edited the newspaper, The Crimson White. She worked as a stringer for The Franklin County Times in Russellville and the Tri Cities Daily in Florence and taught for a number of years in the Russellville public schools. She was an enthusiastic traveler and an ardent cat lover.
She is survived by son, Ken Williams and wife, Gail, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two cats, Hob and Scutter, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two nieces, Deborah Poe and Elizabeth Jeffreys, of Okla.
No services are scheduled, but memorials can be sent to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.
Inetta Jo "Boots" Petree

Inetta Jo "Boots" Petree, 75, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Buddy Wellington and Bro. Brian Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Ole Line Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Artie V. Raper; brothers, John, Hobert and Adell Raper; sister, Vicky Traffensteadt; and grandson, Dr. Les Sockwell.
She is survived by her children, Cathy Pierce, David and Jenny Petree, Doc Petree, all of Russellville, Betty and Denny Sockwell, of Sheffield, Dana McIntyre, of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Chris and Missy Pierce, Josh and Brandy Pierce, Kelvin Tompkins, Jana and Mike Williams, Heath Sockwell, Drew Sockwell, Jennifer and Brandon Kelly, Jordan Petree, Chase and Tara Parrish, Trace and Leiren Parrish; great-grandchildren, Heather Pierce, Clay Pierce, Austin Vandiver, Logan Hill, Jeremy Borden, Catlean Williams, Erica Williams, Logan Kelly, Lane Kelly, Cole Kelly, Chance Parrish and Tristan Parrish; brothers, Bill and Inga Roper, of Chicago, Ill., Gary and Judy Raper, of Phil Campbell; sisters, Louise Thompson, of Russellville, Vern Collins, of Cleveland, Rena Evans, of Atlanta, Ga., Nancy and M.L. Raburn, of Tupelo, Miss; beloved family, Bruce Tompkins, Linda Hovater, Phyllis McNatt; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chris Pierce, Josh Pierce, Kelvin Tompkins, Mike Williams, Heath Sockwell, Drew Sockwell, Chase Parrish, Trace Parrish. Honorary pallbearers will be Clay Pierce, Jeremy Borden, Steven Munzak, Gary Evans, Greg Guinn, Tim Raper, Don Raper and Scott Raper.
The family would like to thank Cherie, Brenda, Brandy, Teresa, Beth and the 3rd floor nursing staff of Helen Keller Hospital and Belinda and the staff of Davita Dialysis Clinics of Sheffield and Russellville. Your love and care during our mother's long illness provided us peace and comfort. We would like to thank Bro. Buddy Wellington, Bro. Brian Scott and the members of Heritage Fellowship Church of Russellville.
Her hobbies were shopping with friends, baking carrot cakes, cooking, visiting with church family, singing and dancing, caring for her grandchildren, and traveling to see the beauty of God's creation.
Ralph E. Malone

Ralph Edwin Malone, 59, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Monday, October 12, 2009, at Russellville Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandson. He also loved hunting and fishing with his friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville with Carl Gaston and Edward LouAllen officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Survivors include wife of 36 years, Joyce Malone; son, Bradley Malone and wife, Melanie; father, J.W. (Buddy) Malone; sisters, Marie Tullis, Margaret King and husband, Donald; brother, Joe Malone, all of Russellville; grandchildren, Brayden Paul Malone, and future granddaughter, Isabella Rose Malone; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Green, Joey LouAllen, Joseph LouAllen, Jody Beard, Joe Murray and Sammy Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by mother, Pauline Malone; brother, Harlon Malone.
Thanks to Russellville Hospital especially 2nd floor and ICU staff, Dr. Santos, Dr. Almirol, Dr. Anastacio and Dr. Bob.
