THS closes Region Scot Beard

THARPTOWN – The Tharptown football team's hope of a playoff spot ended Monday night when Vina defeated Waterloo, but that does not mean it the Wildcats will cruise the rest of the way through the season.
Friday night they will travel to R.A. Hubbard for their final region game of the season.
An upset of the fifth-ranked Chiefs could spark the Wildcats and help propel them to the three-game winning streak they need to finish the season .500.
Earning that upset will be a difficult task.
R.A. Hubbard, one of the best teams in the region last year, combined with Hazlewood, the 2008 Region champions, when Lawrence County consolidated its schools.
The result is a Hubbard team that is 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the region. Hubbard's only loss was against Maplesville, which is now ranked fourth in Class 1A.
The Chiefs have already clinched the region title this season.
Hubbard has scored an average of 43 points per game and have allowed only six points per game. The Chiefs have shutout three opponents this year.
The Wildcats have given up an average of 37.9 points per game and have scored an average of 15.4 points.
Tharptown has struggled against the other teams that have already clinched playoff berths in the region.
The Wildcats are 0-2 against Phillips, 0-2 against Shoals Christian and 0-1 against Vina.
A win against the Chiefs could provide some excitement for the program as it tries to build for the future.
