Extension efforts honor county native

Franklin County has a long, rich tradition and proud history.
It's something that's grown and grown through the years, we just often fail to stop and notice.
The county was home to the first industry in the state of Alabama, the first college in the state and over 130 years later, the first junior college in the state.
What makes this area so special are its people. That has never changed.
The Franklin County 4-H program has recognized one prominent native for his work in establishing that organization.
Luther Noble Duncan, a native of Rockwood, attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute where he was later instrumental in developing the 4-H program.
Duncan went on to serve as president of his alma mater, which we now know as Auburn University.
Extension agent Katernia Cole and all of her staff should be commended for their work in honoring Duncan during the program's centennial celebration.
