Airport completes fuel upgrade

The Russellville Airport completed a yearlong upgrade by adding Jet A fuel to the airport's fuel choice Monday afternoon.
The airport received 3,000 gallons of Jet A fuel, which will hopefully attract larger jet planes to the area, airport manager Harry Mattox said.
"We don't know when we'll have to reorder jet fuel again," Mattox said. "That will depend on how many jets we get in here."
The addition of jet fuel has been in the works for about a year, and the fuel should be available by the end of next week barring any unforeseen delays.
The airport has offered regular aviation fuel, and is about to go from a 4,000-gallon tank for the aviation fuel to the 12,000-gallon tank. The pumps will be self-service, so the airport will not have to be open to sell fuel to jets or regular planes, Mattox said.
"We are going to have it set up to take credit cards so that anyone can get fuel 24 hours a day," Mattox said.
Mattox hopes the self-service feature will prompt more fuel sales for the airport, in which case the amount of fuel purchased at one time will have to be re-evaluated.
"We usually sell about 1,000 gallons of aviation fuel per month, but hopefully we will sell more once we are set up as a self-service location," Mattox said.
