Grant bring gear to county

Franklin County was among eight counties who received new equipment Monday morning which is designed to aid local law enforcement.
Lauderdale, Colbert, Winston, Marion, Fayette, Lamar, and Walker counties also received the same equipment as a result of a $166,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
Each county received a trailer with equipment that can be used at crime scene investigations Franklin County Emergency Management Agency Director Carol Frederick said.
"This is the first time since I have been with the EMA that we've been able to provide law enforcement with this type of material," Frederick said.
The equipment can be used during investigations at day or night.
While it will be housed at the Russellville Fire Station, it will be used throughout the county as the need arises.
"It is better for the trailer [with the equipment] to stay in Russellville because it is a centralized location and is easily accessible for everyone in the county," Red Bay Police Chief Pat Creel said.
Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said that the extra equipment would help law enforcement officials throughout the county with accident or crime scenes.
"It's here for anyone in the county that needs it," Plott said about the equipment.
