Spring is busy time for local sports

Basketball has had the local prep sports scene all to itself for the past couple of months, but that changes drastically with the arrival of spring.
(I realize that spring won't officially arrive on the calendar for another few weeks. But for coaches and athletes who participate in spring sports, it's already here.)
Baseball season began earlier this week, and softball won't be far behind. But that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to the multitude of spring sports in Franklin County.
Tennis teams and golf teams at Russellville and Red Bay High School are getting ready to go, and every school in the county participates in track and field. With all these different sports going on at once, spring can be a very busy time here at the newspaper. We need your help now more than ever to provide the best coverage possible for the hard-working student-athletes in our county.
One of the best ways to help is by sending us a schedule. It's hard for us to be at a game unless we know where and when it's being played.
That being said, many spring sporting events will take place on the same day. Try as we might, we still haven't figured out a way to be in two places at once. That means we must rely on coaches, bookkeepers, and occasionally even dedicated parents to keep us fully apprised of what's going on. We have received a lot of help in years past, and we'll need it again this year.
Anyone wishing to report results from a game, match, meet or tournament should call 332-1881 or fax to 332-1883. You can also e-mail information to mike.self@fct.wpengine.com.
We greatly appreciate your assistance. Don't hesitate to report a score or a result, whether it's varsity, junior varsity or middle school. If it involves a school or student-athlete in Franklin County, we want to know about it.
Thanks again for your cooperation, and I look forward to seeing you this spring.
