James Bedford Carroll

James Bedford Carroll, age 77, of Cherokee, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2007.
He was a member of Belgreen Methodist Church of Belgreen, where he was raised. He then went to serve his country in the Korean War. He worked for TVA as an ironworker and a construction superintendent. Mr. Carroll was a member of Iron Worker Local #477 as an apprentice instructor for 16 years. He worked at Colbert Steam Plant, Wilson Dam and Browns Ferry in AL, and Watts Barr Nuclear Plant and Hartsville Nuclear Plant in TN, for a total of 31 years service with TVA. After retiring, he built log homes for Honest Abe Log Homes for six years. He was a Master Mason of Lodge #94 and a member of The Scottish Rite of Gallatin, TN. He was known to his hunting buddies of the Blanton Hill Hunting Club affectionately as "Bossman." He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Ira Carroll; and his sister, Betty Jo Kimbro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2007, in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Morris Kennedy, Bro. Sammy Wallace and Bro. Johnny McDonnell officiating. Interment was in Cherokee Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.
Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Doris Marie Worsham Carroll; twin daughters, Bonnie Carroll and Connie Carroll Woodard; his grandchildren, Matthew Wade Woodard and Misti Pressnell Goode; his great-grandchildren, Bishop Riley Goode and Adyson Mae Goode; and his brother, Wallace "Cat" Carroll.
Memorials may be made, at Mr. Carroll's request, to Hope Lodge c/o the American Cancer Society, Birmingham, AL.
Lonis Smith Landers

Lonis Smith Landers, age 83, of Denver, PA, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2007.
Mrs. Landers was a native of Franklin County. She was preceded in death by her parents; John and Martha Smith; and a son, Larry W. Landers.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2007, at Franklin Memory Gardens with Bro. Johnny Richardson officiating. Interment followed.
Mrs. Landers is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clifford G. Landers; two daughters, Martha E. Landers of Garfield Heights, OH, and Myra (Jeannie) R. Landers Mysliwczyk and husband John, of Garfield Heights, OH; two sons, Eddy A. Landers and wife Julie, of Denver, PA, and Norval Glen Landers and wife Debbie, of Cleveland, OH; a sister, Christine Broussard of Sheffield; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Akins Funeral Home assisted the family.
Stella Marie Grimes

Stella Marie Grimes, age 83, of Red Bay, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2007, at Care Center of Red Bay.
Mrs. Grimes was born September 22, 1923, in Arkansas to John and Rebecca McCorkle Lowder. She was a nurse for 30 years and a member of Cornerstone Church of God, Red Bay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy Aaron Grimes; her mother and father; one sister, Rena Mae Reddick; four brothers, Alfred Lowder, Herbert Lowder, Dallas Lowder and an infant brother; one granddaughter, Ellen Pisula; and one great-grandson, Jimmy Pisula.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Jerry Glenn officiating. Interment was in Red Bay City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Grimes' grandsons, Brian Grimes, Charles Crane, Jr., Daniel Grimes, Zach Grimes, Dustin Crane and Matthew Schmikel. Honorary bearers were her Sunday School class.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by two daughters, Annette Crane and husband Charles, of Red Bay, and Katheryn Schmickel of San Antonio, TX; three sons, Luther Aaron Grimes of Eugene, Oregon, Milton Alvin Grimes and wife Jackie, of Tavares, FL, and Thomas Arvile Grimes and wife Nancy, of Belmont, MS; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Deaton Funeral Home assisted the family.
Ethridge Motes

Ethridge "Doc" Motes, age 93, of Spruce Pine, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2007.
Mr. Motes was a native of Franklin County and a member of the Spruce Pine Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mandy Motes; a son, Clayton Motes; and five sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2007, at Spruce Pine Baptist Church with Bro. James Abston and Bro. Jim Poss officiating. Interment was in Spruce Pine Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Nathaniel Kuykendall, Stephen King, Hubert Motes, Kerry Hood, Eric Wright and Michael Lawler.
Mr. Motes is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline Motes; two daughters, Christine Motes Summers and husband William M., of Huntsville, and Cathy Sue Motes Kuykendall and husband Jimmy F., of Spruce Pine; and one grandchild, Nathaniel Kuykendall of Montgomery.
The family offers a special thanks to Dr. Oliver Matthews and the third floor nursing staff and to Diane and Michael of ECM Hospital.
