As part of severe weather awareness week, the Franklin County Emergency Management Association (EMA) will participate in a statewide tornado drill Feb. 21 at 9:30 a.m.
This drill will replace the traditional formal practice tornado watch and warning that have been issued in previous years by the National Weather Service.
Franklin County EMA Director Carol Frederick said they are encouraging all municipalities to practice their tornado drills at this time.
"We've already spoken with the schools and the cities," she said. "It's just a precaution but you never know when a tornado could strike. There is evidence of tornados coming out of almost a clear blue sky, so you can't over prepare."
In the event of foul weather, the tornado drill will be observed Friday.
