Searching for those 'unsung heroes'

There are millions of them: Hundreds of ordinary people who do extraordinary things for the love of their fellow man.
These men and women lead their day-to-day lives and through their actions, touch hundreds more lives.
We typically call them Unsung Heroes and it's high time someone sings their praises and tells their stories, but we need your help.
We need you, our readers, to nominate an Unsung Hero to be spotlighted by The Franklin County Times each Wednesday.
We are not necessarily looking for the club president, the man or woman whose name is routinely in the headlines or the person who openly seeks the spotlight.
We're more interested in the guy who walks three miles each day for exercise but picks up trash along the way, the caregiver who has helped a special friend, the department store clerk who has made certain the youth ball team remains focused on participation and not just winning or the volunteer our United Way agency can't do without.
We want the names of people in your church who perform kind deeds, the elderly couple that might miss Sunday school to instead visit and share with a shut-in.
We'd like to know the names of folks who are involved in adult literacy programs, who work with the mentally or physically challenged, who are playing key roles in the fight against drugs or who have been involved in bringing an inspirational or educational activity to the community.
We want to know of those who performed feats of courage or whose personality and love for life simply makes others feel good day after day.
With your help, we'll share years of touching moments caused by truly special people.
Please give serious consideration to those Unsung Heroes you know. Take a few minutes to write a brief letter of nomination, telling us specifically why you think they're deserving of recognition.
Either drop it by our office at 14131 Highway 43 (next to Advance Auto), mail it to Unsung Heroes, to my attention at P.O. Box 1088, Russellville, AL, 35653, or email them to me at jason.cannon@fct.wpengine.com.
Please sign your name and include your telephone number.
Our plans are to collect what we hope is a long list of nominations and feature them on a weekly basis in our newspaper.
So, set those wheels in your mind to spinning, but don't tell the nominee.
We want it to be a big surprise.
We're looking forward to hearing first-hand and sharing what we think will be a collection of great stories.
We are eager to start what we believe has become a meaningful tradition.
Thanks.
That's what we want to tell the Unsung Heroes. And it's what we want to tell you today for assisting us in what we believe is a worthy project.
