Leonard O. Allen, Jr.

Leonard O'Neal Allen Jr. passed away on January 9, 2007 from complications of pancreatic cancer. He was 83 years old.
Previously a native of Franklin County and long time resident of Russellville, he was a current resident of Marietta, Georgia. Mr. Allen proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Following the war he worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning to Franklin County he served as Veteran's Service Officer from 1953-1960, he held the office of Tax Assessor for 18 years and served as the Mayor of the City of Russellville from 1980-1984. One of his proudest accomplishments as Mayor was the restoration of the Sloss Lake Park. He was instrumental in the Bear Creek Watershed and worked on many projects that benefited the local area. He was a life long Democrat and was proud to have had many Republican friends. He was honored to serve as the Franklin County Co-Chairman to re-elect Howell Heflin to the U.S. Senate and remained a life long friend.
He was President of Leonard Allen Acres and Vice President of Franklin Real Estate and Insurance. His civic affiliations included Secretary of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Association, Commander of the Russellville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, President of the Lions Club, Director of the Russellville Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Red Cross Association and the Heart Fund.
Following retirement he traveled the world extensively as a host on Royal Cruise Line, meeting many interesting people and seeing many beautiful sights. He also continued his life long hobby of restoring classic cars.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lynn Botts and Dr. Michael Botts of Madison, Alabama, son Leonard O'Neal Allen III of Atlanta, Georgia, former wife and mother of his children Nola Pritchard Allen and two grandchildren, Drew and Rachel Botts, special friend, June Tyson and her two daughters Georgia Lister, and Debbie Rosen and their immediate families of Alpharetta, Georgia.
Pall Bearers are; Senator Roger Bedford, Mark Butler, David Lister, Jess Rosen, Barry Petty and Bob Rogers. Honorary Pall Bearers are Jimmy Byars, Harry Crumbly, Charlie Gamble, Martin Golden, Delmar King, Dr. Joe Kirkpatrick, L.A. Murphy, Bob Seibert, Herb Singleton, J.R. Smith, Neil Taylor Sr., Dr. Aubrey Terry, Jimmy Weatherford, Leon Yarbrough.
Funeral services were held at 11am. on Saturday, January 13th at the First United Methodist Church of Russellville with Dr. Gene Balding, and Brother Jerry Curry officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens.

Joyce Bendall

Joyce Bendall, age 75, of Russellville, passed away Friday, January 5, 2007, at Russellville Hospital.
Mrs. Bendall was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and a member of Waco Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wallace Bendall.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Billy George officiating. Interment was in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
Mrs. Bendall is survived by three daughters, Bobbie Swinney and husband Fredd, of Phil Campbell, Phyllis Johnson and husband Tom, of Russellville, and Denise Devaney of Russellville; three brothers, Ottis Junior Green of Tuscumbia, Alvie Green of Wilwood, IL, and Harold Green of Russellville; a sister, Georgia Lou Sparks of Tuscumbia; nine grandchildren, Craig and Ross McCarley, Selena Jackson and husband Mike, Millicent Johnson and husband Jason, Amanda Mouser and husband Brian, Caressa Fretwell and husband Tyler, Amber and Justin Johnson, and Whitney Devaney; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jesse Douglas Malone

Jesse Douglas Malone, age 79, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007.
Mr. Malone was a World War II Air Force veteran.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Stanley Hargett officiating. Interment was in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
Mr. Malone is survived by a sister, Mary Riley Long and husband John, of Russellville; a special friend, Esther Duncan of Russellville; his best buddy, Chris Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles Wayne McGuire

Charles Wayne McGuire, age 58, of Goodlettsville, TN, and formerly of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007.
Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mattie Pauline McGuire; and a brother, Jerry McGuire.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Kenneth Davis officiating. Interment was in Tharptown Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Andrew McGuire, Dudley McGuire, Jeremy Hamm, Tommy Waldrup, Greg Hamm and Ricky Kirby.
Mr. McGuire is survived by his wife, Margaret McGuire; a brother, Arlis McGuire and wife Joyce, of Russellville; and three sisters, Shirley Hamm and husband Greg, of Florence, Barbara Bohn and husband Reed, of Abbeville, LA, and Paula Waldrup and husband Tommy, of Russellville.
