Arbor Day Foundation giving away free trees in January

The National Arbor Day Foundation is giving away free trees to Alabama residents in January as part of their Trees for America Campaign.
The foundation, known for promoting tree growth, will give everyone in Alabama 10 flowering trees at no charge when they become a foundation member, according to a press release.
The trees selected to be sent to our state are two White Flowering Dogwoods, two Flowering Crabapples, two Washington Hawthorns, two American Redbuds, and two Golden Rain Trees, according to the release.
"These compact trees were selected for planting in large or small spaces," John Rosenow, the foundation's president, said.
The trees are give Alabama homes a the beauty of pink, white, and yellow flowers along with winter berries and nesting sites for songbirds, Rosenow said.
The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between February 1 and May 31 with planting instructions enclosed. The six to twelve inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced at no charge, Rosenow said.
In addition to the trees, members will receive a subscription to the Foundation's bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and The Tree Book, which gives information about planting and maintaining trees.
