Haleyville police chase ends in Phil Campbell

PHIL CAMPBELL – A high-speed chase that began in Haleyville ended in Franklin County near Mon Dye Bottoms Wednesday afternoon.
Haleyville Police Chief Kyle Reogas said the incident began as a routine traffic stop around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Haleyville officers stopped Randall Winsted, of Phil Campbell, but he prompty sped away as the officer approached his vehicle.
After leaving the scene, Winsted was chased down Dime Road in Haleyville, which connects to Franklin County Road 79 near Phil Campbell.
The suspect's vehicle became stuck in mud in a field on Franklin County Road 79, near the intersection of Mon Dye Road.
Winsted ran into a wooded area where he was able to elude the police.
However, his vehicle was towed from the field, and is currently being held by Haleyville Police, Reogas said.
After investigating the suspect, Haleyville police found that Winsted had existing arrest warrants from other law enforcement agencies, which Reogas said he believes why he fled.
Although Haleyville police did not know of Winsted's whereabouts as of presstime last night, Reogas said the department will obtain warrants for his arrest.
Bear Creek Police, Phil Campbell Police, Franklin County Sheriff's Investigators and Franklin County District Attorney's Investigators assisted Haleyville Police Department with the location of the vehicle and the search for Winsted.
