Best of luck to our football teams in the playoffs

By Staff
Once again, another high school football season has flown by.
It seems like just yesterday that teams were finishing up fall practice and getting ready for their season-openers. Now, 10 weeks later, the regular season has come to a close and playoff time has arrived.
First, we'd like to commend all local players, coaches, cheerleaders and other team personnel for all your hard work this season. Some games are won and others are lost, but the lessons learned, friendships forged and character traits developed by participating in team sports will last a lifetime.
Also, we want to congratulate the Russellville Golden Tigers and the Red Bay Tigers for making it to the state playoffs.
Russellville is in the playoffs for the seventh straight season. The Golden Tigers, who were scheduled to host first-round opponent Sylacauga on Thursday night, have advanced at least as far as the Class 5A semifinals each of the past six years. They played in the state championship game three straight times from 2002-04 but are still searching for their first title since 1968. Here's hoping this is the year they finally bring home the coveted Blue Map.
Red Bay will open play in the Class 2A playoffs tonight with a first-round game at J.B. Pennington. The Tigers are in the playoffs for an eighth straight season, and we wish them the best of luck over the next few weeks.
If you get the opportunity, go out and support our local teams as they compete for the right to be called state champions.
Again, congratulations to the players and coaches on a great season, and good luck in the playoffs.
