Peebles opens Russellville store

The City of Russellville welcomed its newest department store Tuesday morning with a fan-fare rivaled only by high school homecoming – and with a similar atmosphere.
The Russellville High School marching band played as Peebles district manager Stan Witherow and Russellville store manger Rita Adams clipped the ribbon and let the crowd of anxious shoppers inside.
"This was great," Witherow said of the spirited crowd and turnout. "It was even better than we had hoped for."
Customers mingled with city, county and local officials while waiting for Peebles personnel to slice the ribbon.
Seconds after the red ribbon was clipped, the parking lot full of shoppers emptied into the city's newest retailer.
The store's grand opening promotion, free tote bags to the first 125 customers, were gone in less than five minutes.
"The city welcomes Peebles," Russellville Mayor Johnny Brown said. "They have created jobs and will keep our local shopping dollars at home. Now, whoever wants to buy (apparel and accessories) won't have to leave the city."
Peebles currently owns and operates more than 560 stores in 31 states.
