From staff reports
Russellville Hospital this week celebrated National Patient Safety Week, CEO Christine Stewart announced in a press release.
This year's theme for the week was: "Our Patients-Our Partners: One Team, One Goal," emphasizing building partnerships among patients, families, advocates and hospital care providers.
Russellville Hospital is the only hospital in Northwest Alabama that is a member of the National Patient Safety Foundation, according to a press release.
Russellville Hospital, in partnership with the National Patient Safety Foundation, is focusing on patient and family-centered care. The hospital is actively engaging its community in patient safety activities and fostering patient involvement in all aspects of healthcare. Patients and providers are being encouraged to form partnerships and to work cooperatively toward safe patient care.
Two national agencies, in partnership with NPSF, promoted specific activities for this year's Patient Safety Awareness Week.
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality is promoting safe medication use by providing tips on medication safety and encouraging patients to bring their medications with them when they see their doctor, nurse or pharmacist. Joint Commission Resources, Inc. is offering steps patients and families can take to fight the spread of infection.
"Patient Safety Awareness Week is a call to action for patients and healthcare providers to find ways in which to create effective partnerships in pursuit of safe patient care," said Diane C. Pinakiewicz, President, NPSF.
