Suspended student re-instated by Board

An eighth-grade student at Phil Campbell High School is back in school after serving a week-long suspension for having a knife in her purse on campus.
The student was suspended indefinitely on Monday, March 7, until a due process hearing could be held by the Franklin County Board of Education.
Moss said the board gathered during a special called meeting on Friday, March 11, that resulted in the student's reinstatement, thus allowing her to return to classes.
The media was not notified of the Friday hearing.
Because the student is a juvenile, there have been few details released about the situation, except that the knife was in her purse.
Moss did not disclose any reason why the student had the knife on campus.
School principal Bill Smith said that he would leave all comments to Moss and the board of education, only saying that he followed the proper protocol in handling the matter.
