County tournament was full of excitement once again

The 2005 Franklin County basketball tournament took place this past weekend, and we would like to recognize some of the people who helped make it possible.
First and foremost, we want to say congratulations to the players, coaches and cheerleaders from Belgreen, Phil Campbell, Red Bay and Vina for putting on a tremendous show. The county tournament is always one of the biggest highlights and most anticipated events on the local sports calendar, and this year's tournament was certainly no exception.
A special congratulations goes out to coach Rory Carpenter and the Red Bay Tigers, coach Donnie Roberts and the Red Bay Lady Tigers, and coach Joel Phillips and the Phil Campbell Bobcats for winning county championships in the varsity boys, varsity girls and B-Team boys divisions, respectively.
The Lady Tigers captured their seventh consecutive county crown, a remarkable feat considering the level of play in Franklin County over the past few years.
Also, we want to say a special word of thanks to others who helped make the tournament a great success, including the referees, bookeepers, scoreboard operators, team managers, school administrators, local government officials, and, of course, all the fans who came out to watch the games and conducted themselves with such class.
Thanks to Northwest-Shoals Community College for hosting the tournament for a third straight year.
Finally, a special thanks to those restaurants and individuals who provided and served food in the hospitality room. Everything was excellent!
