More than half of those wanted in a round up of 21 individuals wanted on drug charges in Meridian and Lauderdale County were arrested by local law enforcement on Friday.
The arrests stem from a year-long investigation by the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, the Meridian Police Department, the East Mississippi Drug Task Force and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said officers and sheriff's deputies began serving arrest warrants throughout Lauderdale County at about 2 p.m. on Friday. He would not say where the arrests were being made, but he said others wanted on warrants in Meridian and Lauderdale County also have been picked up in the drug raids.
He said the charges range from marijuana possession to manufacturing methamphetamine. He said a list of those arrested will be released today.
