Pianist is guest at next music series

Jackie Edwards-Henry is the guest at Thursday's St. Paul's Chamber Music Series.
The concert begins at 12:05 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1116 23rd Ave. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public.
Edwards-Henry is professor of piano and piano pedagogy at Mississippi State University, director of Mississippi Piano Showcase and current vice president for membership for Mississippi Music Teachers Association.
In addition to her university and professional service responsibilities, she maintains an active schedule as a performer, clinician and adjudicator.
She has performed throughout the South, Midwest and East United States, as well as in Canada, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. She has performed with saxophonist Gail Levinsky, flutist Lana Johns and the Langston Trio in concerts and at regional, national and international conferences.
Recent accomplishments by Edwards-Henry include the following: an invited concert of new music for flute and piano by American composers at the Prague Conservatory in October 2003; a premier of "Call and Response" for alto saxophone and piano by James Aikman at the 2002 British Saxophone Congress, Cardiff, Wales; the release of a compact disc in July 2002, "Saxophone and Other Voices," with saxophonist Gail Levinsky; and an article, "Sonata by Mozart, Lyrics by Ima Desperate Teacher," published in the April/May 2002 issue of American Music Teacher.
Edwards-Henry received a doctorate in piano pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma and bachelor's and master's degrees in performance and pedagogy from William Jewell College and the University of Illinois.
She pursued additional piano study in Bordeaux, France, as a recipient of a Rotary Scholarship.
