Rooster Day Festival' set for Saturday

The Coleman Center for Arts and Culture and the City of York will host its annual "Rooster Day Festival" on Avenue A just off Highway 17 South in downtown York, Ala.
The festival will be Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. There will be plenty of activities for the whole family including: children's activities, craft demonstrations, art and craft booths, book sales, great food, regional music acts and more.
The Coleman Center will also host its annual Art Auction, closing at 5 p.m. on Rooster Day. Come and take advantage of the opportunity to purchase original handmade items and help support the Coleman Center.
Market 2004 at Rooster Day celebrates the Handmade, Homemade, Homegrown goods from the Black Belt Region of Alabama and East Central Mississippi. Vender booths will open at 9 a.m. and at 10 a.m. music will begin on Avenue A featuring musical groups from across the region. T's Lounge is sponsoring Little Jimmy Reed and N-terface Records is presenting recording artist Joe Cross. John Brown, Minister of Music of Livingston Presbyterian Church has organized the entertainment and Tim Craddock of WYLS will be the MC for the event.
Demonstrations on basket making, quilt making, mosaics, stain glass and oil painting and many other art and craft techniques will be given. There will be plenty of activities for children as well, with scheduled storytelling, art classes, clowns, games and more.
Festivalgoers will have a wide selection of art and craft booths to visit and the food court will feature groups from across the region selling everything from homemade ice cream and snow cones to fried fish plates and barbecue to raise funds for special projects.
Additionally, the Altman-Riddick Museum at the Coleman Center will feature the work of Caren Heft. The Silent Auction will also take place in the Museum. Works donated by many of the artists from around the region will be featured in the silent auction. All proceeds go toward the Coleman Center for Arts &Culture programs.
