Pancakes with blueberries, strawberries, cinnamon, apples or peaches and smothered in whipped cream top the menu at Meridian's newest restaurant.
The Meridian House of Pancakes opened two weeks ago and owners Amin Jaafar and Sam Abdel, who are also brothers-in-law, say business has been good.
Jaafar, who owns the Philadelphia House of Pancakes which he opened in 1995, partnered with Abdel to open the Meridian location because of requests from his customers.
The restaurant, located at Howard Johnson's on U.S. 80 East, is open seven days a week and 24 hours a day on Friday and Saturday. Breakfast is served all day.
Besides traditional pancakes, the eatery also serves Belgian waffles, pecan waffles, chocolate chip pancakes and silver dollar pancakes. Side items include country ham, bacon, sausage, turkey bacon, turkey ham and turkey sausage.
Other menu items include eggs, grits, oatmeal, French toast, English muffins, biscuits and gravy.
Traditional omelets also are a popular choice among customers, as are such non-traditional fare as a taco omelet, enchilada omelet, chicken fajita omelet and the chili cheese omelet.
If you are looking for something other than breakfast, the restaurant offers a salad bar, several Italian-style dinners, a selection of steaks, chicken, hamburgers, catfish and fried shrimp.
Together, Abdel and Jaafar have more than 35 years of experience in the restaurant business.
