LAUREL The Laurel-Jones County Dixie Boys 14-year-old All-Stars are headed for the State Tournament.
L-JC made sure of that by defeating Philadelphia 12-5 Thursday to capture the District Tournament crown here at Walters-Lions Field.
L-JC, who outscored their opponents 44-10 in those three games, will now head to Kosciusko for the State Tournament, which begins July 17. They will meet Columbia at 7 p.m. that evening in their opening round game.
Cory France paced the 11-hit, L-JC offense with a double and two singles.
Jones doubled and singled, while Colt Howard added a double. Caldwell, Headrick, Beach, Smith and Williams added singles.
Willard Bacon, Jonathan Jenkins and Kendrick Griffin each singled for Philadelphia.
Kendall Steve was the starter and took the loss. Bacon, Colton Wilson and Nigel Gibson pitched in relief.
The winner of the State Tournament heads to the Dixie Boys World Series in LaGrange, Ga., beginning July 31.
