Now is the perfect time to join 4-H

It really has been a busy summer. 4-H'ers have been to contests, horse shows, workshops, meetings and much more. I don't know about them, but I am tired.
Now it is time to begin the new 4-H club year. This is the perfect time for youth not involved in 4-H to join.
The 4-H Cloverleaf Club is for 5-7 year olds. Club members learn about a variety of 4-H projects, including insects, plants, cooking, animals and more. The club's first meeting of the new year is Aug. 9, from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Lauderdale County Extension Office. If you plan to attend, call the 4-H Office at 482-9764 to register. This month's program will be on community service.
If you enjoy horses, you will want to join the 4-H Horse Club. The Horse Club is for 8-18 year olds. You don't even have to own a horse to participate. For more information, call Lance at 482-9764.
The 4-H Personal Development Club is for 8-13 year olds. These 4-H'ers learn about community service, community organizations, and other things relating to personal development. This club will meets the second Thursday of each month at the Lauderdale County Detention Center Conference Room. The next meeting is Aug. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
The 4-H Photography Club is for youth between the ages of 8 and 18 interested in improving their photography skills. This club will meet Aug. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at Wayne Rawson Portrait Studio.
The 4-H Pet Club will meet Sept. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lauderdale County Detention Center Conference Room.
The 4-H Field and Stream Club will begin meeting in September. If you interested in shooting sports and learning about wildlife this club is for you. Call Lance at 482-9764 for details.
Community
4-H Clubs are open to youth ages 8-18 and the members participate in
a variety of 4-H Projects.
The Lauderdale 4-H Club meets the second Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at Lauderdale Methodist Church. The club leader is Linda Clayton.
The Center Hill Obadiah 4-H Club meets the third Wednesday at the Center Hill Club House. The club leader is Gloria Hughes.
If your community is without a 4-H club, you may consider getting one started. It is as simple as giving me a call. Most clubs meet monthly, plus it is tons of fun and you will be giving back to your community.
All 4-H clubs participate in community service projects and contests. 4-H emphasizes leadership, citizenship, public speaking and positive self-esteem.
There is one more type of club, and that is the 4-H School Club. We had some terrific school clubs last year and will be organizing several more this year. If you are a teacher and interested in having 4-H in your classroom or school, give me a call.

For information on livestock, field and stream, or the horse club, ask for Lance Bruce. For information on the other project clubs or community clubs ask for Beth. We will be glad to tell you all about 4-H. Perhaps you don't live in Lauderdale County. That is not a problem. Call the Extension Service in your county and ask for the agent in charge of 4-H. There is a 4-H program in all counties in our state.
Now is a great time to join.
The 4-H County Council will meet Aug. 18 from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Extension Office. The 4-H County Council is for all 4-H members and those who would like to learn more about 4-H.
