William Carey College
honors theater students

The William Carey College Department of Theatre recently honored students at its 2003 Awards Dinner on the Hattiesburg campus.
The annual event recognizes the accomplishments of theatre students during the current school year. Among those honored:
Carrie Ferguson Bellew, a theatre major from Long Beach, received the Most Valuable Member of Serampore Players award.
The MVP award is the highest honor, voted on by the students in the theater department.
She also received the Obra L. Quave Theatre Award and a technical achievement award for her lighting design for the WCC production "out by the rabbit cage."
Stephanie Abel, a theater major from Hattiesburg, received the Ralph E. Cromis I Scholarship.
Established by Mrs. Wilda Cromis in memory of her husband, this scholarship goes to a student majoring in theatre.
Abel also received a technical achievement award for stage management.
Michelle Baxter, a theater major from Memphis, was awarded the Joyce Quave Roberts Memorial Scholarship.
Established by family and friends of Roberts, this scholarship goes to a student majoring in theatre.
Nathan Dodd, a music education major from Corinth; Kathy Herrington, a theater major from Oak Grove; Kristen Miller, a theater major from Purvis; and Clint Thompson, a theatre major from Foxworth, received acting achievement awards.
Joel King, a theater major from Purvis, was awarded the Bob Crumpton Memorial Scholarship.
This award was established in memory of a civic and denominational leader of Pensacola, Fla.
Abbey Lee of Waymart, Penn., received an acting achievement award and the Obra L. Quave Scholarship and Theatre Endowment Fund.
This fund provides scholarships for students selected by the faculty of the department of theatre.
Audrea McMillen, a theater major from Tupelo, was awarded the Mark Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship.
Established by friends of Wilkinson to honor his alma mater and major.
Lauren Rasmussen, a theater major from West Palm Beach, Fla., and James Stewart of Hattiesburg received the Doris Schneider Award in Technical Theatre. This award is given to a theater major for excellence in the area of technical theatre and in honor of Doris Schneider, a distinguished WCC alumna who currently teaches at a state university in North Carolina.
