MWBA concludes 2nd week

The 43rd Annual MWBA State Tournament has now concluded its second week of action. Already in the first two weeks, the bowling has been good and the excitement high. Week one saw a high series of 693 by Carolyn Young of Tupelo and a high game of 268 by Carolyn Thomas of Corinth.
The tournament continues at Dixie Bowl Lanes for the next five weekends. As many of you know, this year's tournament has a new tournament director for the first time in over twenty years. Our local association has done an excellent job of assisting the new tournament director "get her feet wet" and I am sure they will continue to do so for the duration of the event.
Local league action continues to wind down. Last week the Monday Nighters and Hucklebuck leagues conducted their season ending roll-offs.
In the Monday Nighters league it was the Major Payne team of Marlene Cacapit, Mel Cacapit, Mary Edmonds, Allen Topcik, Ronnie Thomas and Anita Bounds taking home the championship. The Miller Ball Resurfacing team of Andrew Clayton, Milton Hudson, Abe Simmons, Kenneth Miller, Robert Brown and Jeff Gaines claimed the title for the Hucklebuck league.
Tonight will see the Bowlerettes and the Tuesday Night Mixed leagues concluding their seasons. Later this week, the Queen City league on Thursday and the Ball &Chain league on Friday wrap up their seasons. Action will conclude next week with roll offs in the Senior Citizens and Wednesday Night Mixed leagues.
In local action last week, Ronnie Thomas literally rescued a bowling ball from the trash pile and promptly used it to record a nice 717 series, including a 279 game.
Andrew Clayton picked up his 16th 700 of the season with a 710. Robert Jenkins and Marty McMullen each checked in with games of 267.
Beth Shannon took the top series for the ladies with a 600 in the Bowlerettes league while Tandee Marx claimed the high game for the week with a 246. Marlene Stokes carded a 226, Candy Blackmon and Doris Smith both recorded games of 222 and Shelia Dearman stepped into the picture with a 221.
Don't forget to pick out a league for the summer from the schedules available at Dixie Bowl.
The Random league will get things off and rolling with an organization meeting Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dixie Bowl. This popular format allows teams to bowl at a time of their convenience each week from Sunday through Friday at 6 p.m.
You may pre-bowl up to two weeks in advance if you wish but no post-bowling will be allowed.
All other summer leagues begin meeting Monday, May 19th at 6:30 and continue each night through next Friday.
