A quick response

When the winds and rains came and the tornado warning sirens sounded, emergency and public works crews from the city of Meridian and Lauderdale County quickly responded. Many public service workers stayed on the job through Sunday night and into the pre-dawn hours on Monday, rescuing residents from high water, placing barricades as appropriate and generally helping keep the public posted on road and weather conditions.
A number of agencies were involved, from the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency to Meridian Public Works, as well as the Meridian Police Department, Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, volunteer fire departments and Metro Ambulance. Mississippi Power crews and other utility workers also worked quickly to restore power outages.
It is reassuring to know that so many competent professionals are on the job when such terrible weather strikes, working to protect lives and property. We appreciate all of them.
