ELLISVILLE The Jones Junior College Bobcats picked up their first two wins of the season here Monday afternoon at the expense of the East Central Community College Warriors.
JCJC took the opener, 2-0, and the nightcap, 3-2, in eight innings on a
dark, rainy day at Bobcat Field.
In game one, Bobcat lefthander Chris Hollomon tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking six. Hollomon has already signed with Ole Miss.
Nick Chatham doubled and singled for JCJC, while Donnie Dearman doubled and Chad McIlwain and Jared Myrick added singles.
Joe Talley was the tough-luck loser for East Central. Destin Moore singled twice for the Warriors, while Jacob Townsend tripled and Jake Nester singled.
In game two, the Warriors broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the eighth on a wild pitch.
But the Bobcats rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning. Michael McCraney's RBI single scored Dearman with the tying run and Nathan Jack blooped a single to right, scoring McCraney with the winning run.
Robert White started and went 7 1/3 innings and gave up just three hits. Jack picked up the win in relief. Bobcat pitchers did not allow a hit after
the third inning.
Jack doubled and singled for JCJC, while Dearman had two singles. Jonathan Robertson, Nick Chatham, Tim Garner and McCraney added singles.
Wes Turner went 7-plus innings, allowing just six hits for ECCC. Jarrod Vaughn took the loss in relief. Justin Darby tripled for the Warriors, while
Brian McNeil and Van Wilson added singles.
JCJC, 2-5, visits Scooba to face East Mississippi Wednesday at 1 p.m.
East Central, 6-4, hosts Gulf Coast Wednesday.
