Broad St. slips past Bay Springs

JACKSON Broad Street rallied from a 9-point fourth quarter to deficit to force overtime.
There the Lady Jaguars punched a ticket to the 2A State Girls Championship game with a 67-61 win over Bay Springs Tuesday night at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Broad Street (32-3) will meet the Wednesday winner of the Newton-Coldwater semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday. Bay Springs, the South State 2A Champion, ended its year at 26-5.
Bay Springs head coach Patricia Wilson said her team didn't execute in the final four minutes of regulation.
Bay Springs led 51-42, with 3:40 to play, following a three-point play by Kristi Martin.
Broad Street came back with a 13-4 run to close out regulation. Three-pointers by Sophia Townsend and Lashundreya Townsend highlighted the rally.
The latter trey put Broad Street ahead at 54-53, with 58 seconds left.
Bay Springs was down two when an inside basket tied the game, with 1.3 seconds left in regulation.
In overtime, the game was tied three times, the last coming at 61-all following two free throws from Martin.
Leanna Tucker scored on a putback to put Broad Street ahead to stay 63-61. Lashundreya Townsend's steal and reverse layup sealed the contest in the final 14 seconds.
Broad Street head coach Willie Washington was elated to get the win.
LaShundreya Townsend ended with 20 points to pace Broad Street. Sophia Townsend added 17, and Tucker had 12.
Bay Springs was led by Martin's 20 points and Nadosha Strickland had 14.
