New officers prepare to hit the streets

Meridian Police Chief Benny DuBose was justifiably pleased last week when 11 MPD recruits graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy. From all indications, the officers distinguished themselves at the academy, leading to an expectation that they will make excellent additions to a good city police department that has been saddled with staff shortages.
By the end of this year, DuBose expects that these individuals will be fully qualified to patrol city streets by themselves and protect the city's residents from the criminal element. They bring the police roster up to 98 officers, hopefully on the way to a full complement of 112 officers.
We congratulate the new officers and thank them and all of their fellow officers for their willingness to step into such a dangerous but essential leadership role in our community.
