A Lauderdale County teen-ager received serious injuries from a one-car accident Monday afternoon on King Road, just north of Barnhill Road.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said that Rotrell Monroe, 17, a resident of King Road, was driving a 1995 Mazda Millenium when it ran off the left side of the road. The car crashed into a brick retaining wall near the driveway of a residence and then flipped on its side.
The accident happened about 4 p.m.
Calhoun said authorities are not sure about the cause of the accident. He said a witness said there were no other vehicles on the road when the accident happened.
Calhoun said Monroe was wearing his seat belt, but received severe head injuries from the crash.
The Bailey Volunteer Fire Department, Meridian Rescue Unit and Metro Ambulance responded to the accident. Monroe was taken to a local hospital, then transported to the University Medical Center in Jackson.
