Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi accepting grant applications
The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi is accepting grant applications from faith-based organizations through its Community Youth Partners program.
Applications for the $2,000 grants can be obtained at the office of Partnership for a Healthy Lauderdale County, 806 Highway 19 North, Suite 385. Grantees will agree to conduct a Students Working Against Tobacco day camp during the summer and conduct monthly SWAT activities throughout the year.
The applications deadline is April 20.

Career Center to hold open house
The Career Center at West Lauderdale Middle School will hold an open house Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to come in and "discover" the center and how its staff can help you. While on campus, register to win over $250 worth of prizes to be given away. The open house will coincide with Parent/Teacher Conference Day.
Red Cross to hold fund-raiser
The final event marking Red Cross Month will be a fund-raising barbecue, catered by Squealers, to be held Friday at the Red Cross Office, 1711 24th Ave. The barbecue will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.
Orders of five or more to the same address will be delivered free of charge. Plates are $6 and include pork, baked beans, potato salad, bread and dessert. All proceeds go to the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

Hilltop Homes collecting rummage sale items
Volunteers for Hilltop Home for Boys and Hilltop Home for Girls are seeking items for their annual "Spring Rummage Sale," to be held May 3-4 at the boys' home. All donations are tax-deductible. Items needed include clothes, furniture, knickknacks, appliances and dishes.
Items may be delivered to the boys' home at 7297 Highway 39 North, or the girls' home at 5207 Zero Road. Large donations can be picked up. For more information, call 482-0432.
Fund established for Traci R. Alsup
A trust fund has been established at BankPlus for Traci R. Alsup, who was critically injured March 15 in an automobile accident. Donations to help cover medical expenses can be made at any BankPlus branch. For more information, call Cynthia Redmond at 659-4660.

Tobacco support group to meet Monday
The Partnership for a Healthy Lauderdale County and the American Lung Association of Mississippi have developed a youth/teen cessation program for smokers as an alternative to school suspension.
An "All About Not On Tobacco" session will be held Monday at 806 Highway 19 North, Suite 385 (College Park Shopping Center). The session will begin at 5:30 p.m. Interested teen-agers ages 12-19 may register at this session, or by phoning the Partnership for a Healthy Lauderdale County at (601) 696-4472.
American Business Women to meet
The Pinnacle Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will meet Tuesday at Western Sizzlin' Restaurant, 1100 N. Frontage Road. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Robbie Hales of The Liberty Shop will present a "Spring Fling" fashion show. Members and guests should order their dinner as they arrive. The waitresses will serve dinner at 6 p.m. Hales has put several outfits together to give the working woman a first-hand preview of spring fashions.

Public health forum to be held in Meridian
The Mississippi State Department of Health invites residents to take part in public forums addressing disparities in minority health care accessibility and delivery.
The Meridian forum will be held Tuesday, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Mississippi Power Community Auditorium at 2401 11th St. The forum will address six areas minority health issues: infant morality, cancer screening and management, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and adult and child immunizations.
