Newton evens record with win over Enterprise

The Newton High School girls evened their record at 2-2 on the season with a 55-34 win over Enterprise in local prep basketball action Friday night.
The Lady Tigers were led by the sophomore trio of Creoshia Williams, Kotreece Bender and Twila Clayton. Williams had 15, Bender 10, and Clayton 8.
Newton took a tight 14-11 lead early and led 22-19 at the half before pulling away in the second half. Newton outscored Enterprise 18-11 in the third and 16-5 in the fourth to take the 21-point win.
Jerra Cook led Enterprise with 14 points while Shonda Bester had 13 points.
Forest boys 63, Pearl 38: Steve Harber's Forest Bearcats improved to 3-2 as they blasted Pearl by 25 points Friday night.
Forest led only 23-21 at the half before exploding in the second half. Forest ripped off a19-10 third quarter edge to go up 42-31 at the end of the third.
The Bearcats put the game away with a 26-7 fourth quarter to secure the win.
Charles Rhodes led Forest with 15 points while Paul Brown added 13. Ricky Jenkins led Pearl with 14 points. Forest travel to Choctaw Central Monday.
Newton girls 58, Philadelphia 43: Twila Clayton pumped in 18 points as Newton jumped out quick and pounded Philly 58-43 in prep basketball action earlier this week.
Newton got its first win in the contest and jumped out to a 14-6 lead early and led 24-18 at the half. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Tornadoes 18-11 in the third and 16-14 in the fourth to take the win. Creoshia Williams added 16 points for Newton while Latonya Jordan had 11 and Kotreece Bender eight. Shekara Young led Philadelphia with 11 points while Kedria Watson and Danielle Jones each had nine apiece. Cassie Henson added seven.
Louisville boys 64, Neshoba Central 61: Louisville improved to 4-2 on the season as they defeated Neshoba Thursday night. De'andre Hardin led Louisville with 28 points. Neshoba, which suffered its first loss and stands at 3-1, was led by Tavares Walker with 12 and Tawon Walker with nine.
Louisville girls 59, Neshoba Central 44: The Louisville Lady Wildcats handed rival Neshoba Central its first loss of the season Thursday with 15-point victory. Shaneaka Cistrunk led 4-1 Louisville with 24 points while Tausha Evans had 25 for 3-1 Neshoba.
Sylva-Bay girls 60, Winston Academy 53: Katye Tubb scored 24 points as Sylva-Bay improved to 6-0 with a seven-point win over Winston Thursday night. Amber Carlisle chipped in 15 points for Sylva-Bay.
Sylva Bay girls 50, Kemper Academy 39: The Lady Saints improved to 7-0 with an 11-point victory over the Lady Rams Friday night.
After falling behind 10-7 in the first quarter, the SBA girls put up 15 points in the second period to take a 22-16 halftime lead. Jen Myers led Kemper (1-5) with 13 points. Katye Tubb paced the Lady Saints with 19 points. Amber Carlisle added 16 and Ingrid Norvell scored 10.
Kemper Academy boys 53, Sylva Bay 52: The Rams edged the Saints in a contest that was close from the opening tip-off. At the end of the first period, Kemper (3-1) led 12-10. By halftime, the Rams had increased their lead to 27-21.
Sylva Bay (1-2) fought back in the second half though. In the third quarter they trimmed the Rams' lead to five points and nearly pulled it out in the fourth.
Sylva Bay's Kaleb Deese led all scorers with 22 points. For the Rams, Eddie Keaton scored 14, Justin Robertson 12 and Ty Harbour 10.
