RHS beats Sardis, moves to Round 2

The Russellville Golden Tigers took two of three games from Sardis in the AHSAA Class 5A baseball playoffs to advance to the second round.

Russellville will play American Christian Academy.

In game one against Sardis, Brayden Entrekin pitched a complete game for the win. The lefthander struck out six and allowed eight hits.

Caleb Hawkins had two hits for RHS and collected five RBIs. Bryson Cooper and Tristan Ray had three hits each. Tripp Cleveland and Entrekin added two hits apiece, and Malaki Groce also hit safely. Entrekin and Ray each had two RBIs and Jackson Smith drove in one run.

During game two, Levi Martin of Sardis smacked a couple of tworun home runs to keep the season alive for the Lions. Russellville’s Ty Engelthaler pitched a complete game allowing only four hits, and the senior struck out six batters.

Groce had two hits to lead Russellville while BraydenHatton,Entrekin, Hawkins, Cleveland and Engelthaler added one hit each. Entrekin and Hatton had the Russellville RBIs.

With the season on the line for both teams, Russellville’s Cleveland pitched a gem to help the Golden Tigers advance to the second round. The right-hander struck out seven Lions and allowed seven hits to get the complete game win. The Golden Tigers (2115) broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Cleveland was also a key batter with three hits and two RBIs. Luke Greenhill added a big RBI double for RHS. Hawkins had two hits, Ray hit a double and Hatton added a single during the win.
