Red Bay sweeps Sulligent; wins Area 10 title
The Red Bay Tigers swept the Sulligent Blue Devils last week to go undefeated and win the Class 2A Area 10 championship. Red Bay easily beat Sulligent 17-1 and 14-3 to capture the title.
Red Bay will host W e s t m i n s t e r – O a k Mountain in the first round of the playoffs this week.
In game one, Carson McGee hit two home runs and drove in eight to lead Red Bay’s 17-1 blowout of the Blue Devils. McGee homered in the first and third innings. McGee’s first home run was a threerun shot to left field to give Red Bay a quick 3-0 lead.
The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning after Jeremiah Thorne walked and Jaxson Swann singled down the left field line.
Red Bay scored eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Thorne singled in two runs and McGee hit a grand slam to left field.
Thorne earned the win for the Tigers surrendering four hits and one run and striking out five over five innings of work.
Red Bay collected 10 hits in the game. Swann and Thorne had two hits each. McGee had three with eight RBIs.
In game two, Davo Colburn had three hits in five at bats, as Red Bay beat Sulligent 14-3. Colburn singled in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
Red Bay struck first on a bases-loaded walk of Landyn Lewey. The Tigers added to their lead in the top of the second inning after Jaxson Swann singled and Sulligent committed an error, each scoring one run.
Red Bay scored five runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Ayden Pruitt singled in two runs; Lewey singled in a run; Colburn singled in a run; and Sawyer Humphries singled in a run.
Colburn and Humphries had three hits each. Two of Humphries hits were doubles. Thorn, McGee, Pruitt, and Riley Carpenter had two hits each for the Tigers.
McGee earned the win for Red Bay allowing three runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out nine.
