Man faces drug trafficking charge

PHIL CAMPBELL — A resident is facing multiple drug charges, including drug trafficking, after law enforcement confiscated eight firearms and at least 2 ounces of crystal methamphetamines while executing a search warrant Thursday afternoon.

Police and sheriff’s deputies executed the warrant at a residence on Maddox Road, which is less than two miles from the high school, according to Police Chief Jessica Clements.

Upon entering the residence, police encountered 36-year-old Brett Daniel Williams, who is the owner of the home.

Inside the home, police and deputies found 2 ounces of meth, three different prescription medications which did not belong to Williams, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Clements said eight rifles and handguns were also seized. One of the firearms came back stolen from Bessemer in 1993, she said.

The methamphetamines were found in clear baggies and in plastic containers in the main bedroom of the home.

Clements said her department had received several complaints from the public regarding possible drug activity taking place at Williams’ residence.

“We have encountered the subject before and had been made aware of his alleged activity, which led to the search warrant,” Clements added.

Williams was arrested and charged with three counts of illegal possession of prescription medicatioN, and one count each of drug trafficking (meth), unlawful possession of a controlled substance (meth), certain persons prohibited from carrying a firearm, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Williams was booked into the Franklin County Jail and released Friday afternoon on a $100,000 bond, said Clements.
